2008 Warwick Pinotage Old Bush Vines

A family owned and run winery located in Stellenbosch, Warwick Estate is known for the ladies on their labels. Managing director Michael Ratcliffe is the third generation of the family currently overseeing operations of this well known South African winery.

In addition to the usual tastings, Warwick invites visitors to join in the hunt for the Big Five during a safari into the vineyards. According to Warwick, the” Big Five is comprised of the quintet of South African wine giants – Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinotage, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

Authentic safari vehicles take you deep into the vineyards, en route they liken each of the five grapes to one of the real Big Five.” Sounds like a fun way to learn about wine!

If you haven’t ever tried a Pinotage, this is a great introduction to the grape. The Warwick Pinotage is an easy drinking wine that combines ripe fruit flavors with a hit of spicy pepper. The wine is well balanced with a long finish, pairing nicely with a range of foods.
