2009 Rodney Strong Knotty Vines Zinfandel

Rodney Strong was the 13th bonded winery in Sonoma County. Founded in 1959 after Rodney retired from dancing, the winery was taken over by the Klein family in 1989. With 960 acres under vine, Rodney Strong is Sonoma County’s first carbon neutral winery.

Rodney Strong owns land on the west side of the Russian River that has 15 acres of old Zinfandel vines from 1904. They also farm Zinfandel to the north of Alexander Valley.

Apparently this wine is known as both “knotty” and “naughty” around Rodney Strong. Hmmm, must visit to find out the story on this!

An easy drinking Zinfandel, this wine has bright red fruit. Light and well balanced, it has a nice zing of traditional Zinfandel pepper on the palate. This is a wine that you can drink now or store for another year or two. A good wine for the price!
