Don’t cry for me Argentina!
Susana Balbo is known as the “Evita of Wine” for her passion for winemaking down South. The most famous female enologist in Argentina, she worked for 25 years as a consultant both domestically and abroad before building her own winery in 1999.
Located in the heart of Luján de Cuyo in Mendoza, Dominio del Plata produces about 3 million bottles a year and is highly involved in exporting. More than 36 countries receive her products with the top amounts going to the US.
The color of this wine is really neat. Very opaque, deep garnet, it almost looks unfiltered. On the nose, light vanilla and plum with a bit of hotness (alcohol) which calms down over time. The taste is of plum and cherries. I could taste the oak, but it was subtle and pleasant. Nice on its own or paired with food. As the Argentines say, a big juicy steak. But in my case, grilled veggies did the trick!
